More than 20 years ago, John Zerger, of Salisbury, North Carolina, had a college professor that told him he trained too much.

A running enthusiast, Zerger said he would constantly do math problems on his longer runs.

At one point, he said, he solved a challenging equation that had stumped his fellow classmates for years.

Thoughts From the Bumpy Road 10/4/18

“Time flies when you are having fun.” This old saying suits the mood I am in tonight as I sit down to write my contribution to this week’s Beacon. It was this time five years ago when I started adding my “two cents” to the Beacon to replace my father’s “Around the Burnside” after his death in March of 2013.

The New Mat Red Hats moved their September 13 location to the Carroll Senior Center because the Boathouse at Marietta reported water lapping onto its patio. Sherry Kirkbride brought her pot of famous potato soup that the gals all think quite tasty. In fact there was a request to bring it next month.

Meeting Dates 10/4/18

Matamoras Masonic Lodge #374 is holding a community breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6. The breakfast includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, biscuits, pancakes, cinnamon roll, orange juice and coffee. The public is invited to attend. Carry out is available.
