“You served with my father in World War II,” Mayor Michael Cox says to Herman Zerger Monday, Sept. 17 during Woodsfield Village Council’s regular meeting. Cox and council recognized Zerger during their meeting.

In June of 1942, at only 18 years of age, Woodsfield’s American patriot Herman Zerger enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Zerger did this to serve his country and he did so bravely and with honor.

M.C. Chapter of the Ohio Horsemen's Council Gives Update of Activities

We just wanted to let everyone know what we have been up to.  So far  this year we have had 4 Horse Fun Shows at one of the groups favorite hang-outs, Grizzle Ridge Arena.  All four shows had an amazing turnout.  As a group we kept a record of points for each class and will award halters, trophies and ribbons to our members who won prizes.

Well, the big news topic in the county for the past few months has finally come to somewhat of an end. As I’m sure you are aware of (or have just read on page 1), the Beallsville Keystone Committee won its case against the school district, meaning Beallsville High School will remain open.

The Matamoras VFW Post 6387 was busily doing ceremonies on Monday, Memorial Day. At 11 a.m. at the Matamoras Ferry Landing a wreath was placed in the Ohio River in memory of those buried at sea; at the Dough Boy Memorial World War I site in Peoples Savings Bank park lot and at Ferguson Memorial Park established 1926.
