They are awful busy this year, but Santa and Mrs. Claus made time to come to Monroe County Saturday, Dec. 2 to help area residents get in the Christmas spirit during the annual Monroe County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Festival.

Monroe County Engineer Amy Zwick met with the Monroe County Commissioners Monday, Dec. 4 regarding road repair access right of way agreements but spent the majority of the meeting trying to negotiate ways to keep the roads safe despite the lack of funding afforded by the new budget.

Lucille Rose

Rose, Lucille, age 71, of Fly, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 2, 2014, surrounded by her family at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, WV.

She was born March 13, 1943 at Fly, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Robert and Mae Winland Huff.

  Lucille was a big Buckeye and Browns fan and loved to play bingo.

Lee Bayersdorfer

Bayersdorfer, Lee J. age 54, of Clarington, OH died Monday, November 3, 2014 at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, OH.

He was born November 14, 1959 in Long Island, NY, a son of the late Robert and Mary Bayersdorfer.

  He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Clarington.

Richard Cline

Richard Lee “Dick” Cline, 81, of Graysville, passed away October 28, 2014 at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield, Ohio. He was born at Bloomfield, Ohio on June 4, 1933, a son of the late Earl and Pearl Holland Cline.

Karren Mathews

Karren Sue Mathews, age 66 of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Friday October 31, 2014 at the Monroe County Care Center.  She was born in Monroe County Ohio August 2, 1948 a daughter of Waneta Cline Mathews of Woodsfield and the late Glenn Mathews.

  She was a member of the Greenbrier Methodist Church.

Mildred McHugh

Mildred Doris McHugh, 94 of Greenbrier Road, New Matamoras, passed away October 26, 2014 at Harmar Place, Marietta.  She was born at her home at Greenbrier January 26, 1920, a daughter of the late James F. McHugh and Ina Waife (Cline) McHugh.

Charlotte Dobbin

Charlotte Dobbin, age 67 of Woodsfield, passed away October 27, 2014 at Barnesville Hospital.  She was born in Woodsfield May 23, 1947, a daughter of the late Ralph Lee & Irene Filkens Baker.

Election Results: Schumacher Beats Incumbent Pyles in Commissioner Race; Judge Peters To Take Over Juvenile Court

According to unofficial results reported on Tuesday night, the two hotly contested county races have been decided with both incumbents falling to challengers. Winning the race for Monroe County Commissioner was Republican Mitchell Schumacher, while Judge James Peters was victorious in the race for Court of Common Pleas Probate and Juvenile Division Judge. 

River Athletics Receive $10,000 Donation

The River High School softball team, and all athletic departments at River High School, were the recent recipients of a $10,000 donation on behalf of the Columbia Pipeline group. The team was chosen thanks to the efforts of Casey Tisher who emailed several companies looking for help for the softball team. Zane Daniels, Community Relations Manager with Columbia Pipeline received the email.
