Local children take a walk along the custom pavers Saturday, Aug. 11 at the playground by the Sardis Community Center. The pavers were painted by local children before being placed at the playground.

For the past 10 months, the community of Sardis has come together with one common goal – to breathe new life into the playground at the old Sardis school.

It started in October with new equipment.

Five lucky kids, four Oompa-Loompas and one Willy Wonka greeted the crowd Friday, Aug. 10 and Saturday, Aug. 11 as the community production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” was held at the Henry Coulson Building at the Monroe County Fairgrounds.

River Sports 2/5/15

The Lady Pilots hosted the Lady Zeps from Shenandoah on Jan. 27 and showed complete domination in the second half after a slow start early on, going on to win 67-54. The junior duo of Brielle Williams and Jensen Caretti once again led the Pilots to victory. Caretti recorded 26 points and 18 rebounds.

Monroe Central Sports 2/5/15

On Tuesday, January 13th, the Monroe Central boys traveled to Shadyside for a matchup against the Tigers and were victorious 85-75 despite getting zero points from their bench. The Noles scored at least 17 points in every quarter, including 28 in the second quarter. Levi Brown and Cole Howell led the Noles with 19 points a piece. 

Beallsville Sports 2/5/15

The Beallsville Boys’ Basketball team traveled to take on a tough Caldwell squad Tuesday, January 27. The Devils had a less than optimal start as they trailed by 15 after the first quarter. Things did not get any better for Beallsville in the second half either, as Caldwell’s high-powered offense continued to put up points.

Good day Beacon readers. Hope all is well at your home and that everyone is staying well.

As I am typing this week’s article I am listening to the rain hitting  the window and the roof. I thought to myself, “If we would have  had snow  instead of rain, we wouldn’t have been able to see out our windows.

Winland/Ewing Engagement
