There are two new four-legged officers ready to keep Monroe County safe.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Woodsfield Police Department recently welcomed their new K-9 officers.

Let’s get to know our new officers and their handlers.

In 1958, Woodsfield High School drama students performed “Don’t Take My Penny,” a play about a 16-year-old trying to land the starring role in a movie.

Rodney Rufener looks over some artifacts from a history long-past in Monroe County. To help people remember what the area used to be, Rufener and others helped organize the Switzer Community Heritage Springfest Saturday, June 9 at St. John’s United Church of Christ near Powhatan.

Christine Crowell’s favorite dish at Switzer Community Heritage Springfest by far, she said, was the Sauerbraten, which is sweet and sour beef, with gingersnaps and onions. 

“It’s the only thing I eat all day here,” she said with a smile. “I love it.”
