Garlen Allen Powell, 61, of Sardis, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at his home.
He was born December 7, 1962, in Wetzel County, W.V., a son of the late George Albert and Ellen Louise Ashcraft Powell.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps Iraq \ Afghanistan Veteran with 29 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 9930 Duffy, Ohio, and the American Legion Post 760 Hannibal, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Powell, a sister, Ruth Metz, and a nephew, Joshua Edgell.
Survivors include three sons, Justin (Amanda) Powell of Swansboro, N.C., Corey Powell of Hurbert, N.C. and Kyle Powell of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, George Powell Jr. and Gene Powell, both of Sardis; two sisters, Diane (Geron) Davis of Birmingham, Ala., and Pam (Joe) Edgell of Sardis; four grandchildren, Braden, Baylee, Brodie and Jayden Powell; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 1 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound Street, Sardis, with Siegel Fetty officiating.
Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery with Military Honors.
