Hazel (Bintz) Christman

Hazel M. Christman, 97, died peacefully early Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Altercare of Bucyrus, after years of failing health.

She was born June 8, 1926, in Monroe County to the late George W. and Clara G. (Bintz) Hines.

She was a 1944 graduate of Lewisville High School and married Robert D. Christman on Sept. 2, 1950. The Christmans moved to Crawford County where he farmed and Hazel supported every way she could. Whether feeding her family or those helping with the farm work, her meals were memorable, especially the desserts. Robert preceded her in death on May 17, 2013.

Hazel was a supportive, easy-going, resourceful and persistent lady who also enjoyed playing a good practical joke. She and Robert liked to play cards with friends and family in years past and took many trips “down home” to visit family. She was never one to stay idle as there were always chores and baking to be done, journaling to keep up, quilts to sew, crosswords to solve, and her grandchildren’s activities to attend. She took special delight in becoming a “GG”, as her great grandchildren affectionately referred to her. Hazel was a member of Bucyrus United Methodist Church and the former Epworth congregation where she was active in the Ruth Circle.

Hazel is survived by children, Wesley (Tammy) Christman and Karen Christman; grandchildren, Samantha (Kent) Williamson and their children, Adalynn and Hudson, and Zachary (Kim) Christman and their children, Gabriel and Haisley; sister, Mary Kocher; and nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Wayne Kocher.

The Christman family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus, where her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, with Pastor Becky Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations are encouraged to be made payable to Bucyrus UMC or Avita Hospice and given at the funeral home.

Memories and photos can be shared on Hazel’s tribute page at www.wisefuneral.com.
