James Herman “Jim” Long, 84, of Beallsville died Sunday, June 11, 2023, in Barnesville Hospital.
He was born March 31, 1939, near Quaker City, a son of the late Earl and Dorothy Starr Long.
Jim was a proud U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea during the Vietnam War and he was an active member of American Legion Post #768. He was a retired employee of the former ORMET Corporation near Hannibal. Jim was a man of many talents and interests; he loved going to the Wheeling Island Casino and Racetrack and enjoyed watching hummingbirds and wildlife. He was an avid Ohio State fan and everyone who knew Jim will remember the meticulous care and pride he took in simply mowing his lawn.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, Vaughn Long, on June 24, 2018; four brothers, Wayne, Jennings, Donald and Charles Long; and a sister, Peggy Hollister.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lyda Long, with whom he celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary on June 8; also his daughter, Vicki (Scott) Lohr, of Sardis; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Cassady) Lohr and Leslie Lohr, Jessica (Tyler) Davis, Cody Good, and Colton Long; twin great-grandchildren, Tytus and Teagan Davis; a brother, Billie (Susie) Long, of Massillon; also a special fur baby, Duffy Lynn; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 until the time of service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the Wilson Funeral Home – Harper Chapel, Beallsville, with Pastor Herb Alexander officiating. Full Military Honors by American Legion Post 768 of Beallsville will be presented at the funeral home at the conclusion of the Pastor Alexander’s message.
