Jerry Lee Kinney, age 78, of New Matamoras, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, at WVU Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, West Virginia.

He was born Aug. 23, 1944, in Grandview, son of the late Luther and Hilda (Moore) Kinney.

Jerry was retired from North American Coal Company after working at #4 and #6 coalmines. Jerry was a proud United States Army veteran who served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a Baptist by faith, a member of the UMWA Local #1810 Alledonia, VFW Post 9930 of Duffy, and a member of The American Legion Post #760, Hannibal.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Montgomery, and Nina Leasure; a brother, Richard “Dick” Kinney.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Candy (Hall) Kinney; a son, Stephen W. (Terra) Kinney, of Zanesville; two daughters, Jerri L. Kinney, of New Matamoras, and Missy Kinney, of Woodsfield; two brothers, Ronnie Kinney, of Woodsfield, and Ronald “Bud” (Vicki) Kinney, of Antioch; a sister, Rhonda (Stafford) Merckle, of New Matamoras; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville, West Virginia, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023. 

Interment will follow at the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Fly, where the Honor Guard will conduct military service.
