Sonny Burnett, 96, of Maryville Tenn., passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024. Sonny was born in Knoxville, raised in Wildwood, and lived in Maryville. Sonny worked at the Alcoa Aluminum plant for seven years and then finished his career at the Canalco plant in Hannibal, Ohio, where co-workers will remember him as “BB”. Sonny lived in Woodsfield, Ohio, for 35 years where he made many friends and raised his family with his wife Maxine Justice Burnett. Sonny retired in 1992 and moved back to Maryville where he has resided for the last 30 years.
Sonny loved the Lord and was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In his free time, Sonny enjoyed 20-mile bike rides in the Smokey Mountains, fishing, spending time with family, and eating. Sonny was very patient and had a calm demeanor but also had a quick wit and enjoyed a good conversation.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Burl Burnett Sr. and Lela Clabough Burnett, and his son Timothy Burnett.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years Maxine; sons Gary (Nancy) of Florida, Rod (Gretchen) of Arizona, Shaun of Ohio; brother John (Willie) Burnette; grandchildren Kresta, Amber, Erin, Jake, Alec, Chance, and Lauren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2024, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather at 12:30 p.m. at Logans Chapel Cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Ronald Longmire officiating. www.mccammonammonsclick.com.
