Joseph Franklin “Joe” Kuhn, 89, of Lewisville, Ohio passed away Friday, December 1, 2023 at his home.
He was born near Lewisville on October 23, 1934, a son of the late Leander O. and Genevieve E. Smithberger Kuhn.
Joe was a retired laborer for the former Conalco Aluminum Corp., Hannibal, Ohio where he worked in the cast house and rolling mill. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church near Lewisville and a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, Ohio. Joe loved and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in France.
Joe was always willing to help others with a lending hand. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. He also enjoyed telling stories, listening to bluegrass music, old country music, daily visits to his home place to check his cattle, farming, mowing hay on his 270 Massey Ferguson tractor, planting and growing tobacco, trapping, deer hunting, coon hunting and was an avid ginseng hunter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Martha June Cornelius Kuhn who died on August 21, 2008; a son, David J. Kuhn, three brothers, Jimmy, Paul and Kenny Kuhn, a great-granddaughter, Haelynn Scott Burdette.
Surviving are three sons, Michael C. Kuhn, Ronald W. Kuhn, Christopher A. (Jodie) Kuhn, all of Lewisville; six sisters, Rose Ann Pero of Scottsdale, Ariz., Rita Kuhn of Cambridge, Ohio, Mary Joyce (Russell) Betts of Lewisville, Lucy (Delmas) Betts of Lewisville, Carol Kuhn of Woodsfield, Elaine “Toots” Biedenbach of Lewisville; seven grandchildren, Lucas Kuhn, Tyler (Laura) Kuhn, Erica (Ryan) Dyar, Ashley (Scott) Burdette, Ryan (Latosha) Kuhn, Alexandria (Westley) Crouse and Allison Kuhn; 10 great-grandchildren, Alden Kuhn, Jase, Coletyn and Alyssa Dyar, Bayleigh, Nevaeh and Qwen Burdette, Grayson and Holden Kuhn, Vera Crouse; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and -nephews; several great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Friends will be received at Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78, Woodsfield, 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 8, 2023, 11 a.m. at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 330 S. Main St., Woodsfield with Fr. Timothy Davison as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Lewisville.
Rosary services will be held at 7:30 p.m. December 7, 2023, at the funeral home.
