Lewis W. Kahrig, “Uncle Louie”, 86, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024, at his home.
He was born near Woodsfield on March 22, 1938, a son of the late Alfred and Gertrude Elizabeth Christman Kahrig.
Lewis was a retired processer/furnace operator at the former Ormet Corporation, Hannibal, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Vietnam Era and was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ near Lewisville, Ohio.
Lewis was dedicated to Monroe County Fairground and especially enjoyed attending the tractor pulling events.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Smithberger Kahrig, on March 9, 1996; a daughter, Angella Kahrig; an infant sister and a sister, Lena Pettit; three brothers, Melvin, Raymond and Marion Kahrig.
Surviving are a daughter who he raised, Rosa Kahrig Johnson of Jerusalem, Ohio; two sisters, Marlene (Charles) Caldwell of Pataskala, Ohio, Myrna (Roger) Morrison of Lower Salem, Ohio; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including his nephew “His Boy” Brad Gardner.
Friends will be received at Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, from 10 a.m. until time of military and funeral services at 12 p.m., Friday, August 23, 2024, with Keith Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Middle Church Cemetery near Lewisville.
