Carla Wobschall Staff Writer Monroe County mothers and mothers-to-be painted pictures of ice cream cones while their babies napped and played at a light-hearted afternoon luncheon celebrating National Breastfeeding Month.
With social media and high-tech options threatening print media, the Monroe County Beacon is excited to see young people still enjoying physical newspapers.
The Monroe County Beacon recently visited the Wilds in Cumberland with Kevin “Rob” and Brooke Robinson, brother and sister-in-law of General Manager Kreg Robinson.
Descendants of J.F. (Jim) McHugh and their families enjoyed a family reunion at the “home place” on Greenbrier Ridge over the weekend of July 8-10.
The meeting was called to order by Riley. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Kaden. Following was the 4-H Pledge led by Cooper. Roll call was made by Riley and there were no minutes from the last meeting. The dues are due by Aug. 1, and they are $10 per member. We decided that we were going to move the stone to the extension office at the fairgrounds. Before we move it, we are going to take it to Gallagher’s and they will work on the lettering and there will be pictures taken while we move it. All project books will be in the book this year. We are also going to have a lemonade stand at Shadow Lake and the hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The lunch stand time for our club is Wednesday of the fair from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You must have six meetings by Aug. 1 in order to get your fair pass. For our booth and float theme, we are doing Ohio’s 4-H birthday of 120 years. Decorations for animal areas must be ordered soon. There were twelve demonstrators that were shared. The next meeting is Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
The Riverfront Wranglers 4-H group held its meeting at the old Cameron school on Monday, July 18 at 5 p.m. We had 14 members present and eight visitors. We will be having a bake sale fundraiser on Wednesday, Aug. 3 outside the Monroe Theatre. All sales are by donations. Thank you for all your support.
The Beallsville Busy Bee’s 4-H meeting was held at the Beallsville Park on Tuesday, May 17, at 6 p.m. The 4-H advisor Amy Louden called the meeting to order. The members of the club discussed upcoming events including fundraisers, the next meetings,
Geneva Harmon will celebrate her 90th birthday on Tuesday, Aug. 9, and a card shower is planned in her honor. She would love to hear from friends and family.
