Rodney and Yvonne Newkirk met with 10 retired members of the Navy Cargo Handling Battalion at Jimmy Columbian Italian Restaurant in Parkersburg, West Virginia for dinner. They got together to celebrate old friends and old memories. It was a good time for all. Thank you for your service.

On Saturday, July 22, the River High School campus hosted the first annual Jim Turner Volleyball Tournament in Jim Turner’s memory. All proceeds raised will go toward scholarships in Jim Turner’s memory. The tournament, which lasted from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., hosted eight high school and six junior high volleyball teams. Coming in first place for high school division was Robert C. Byrd High School, from Clarksburg, West Virginia. In first place for the junior high was Paden City High School. To raise funds for the scholarship, there was a concession stand, country store, T-shirts and memorabilia created by Carolyn Andennora. The tournament is currently planned to be an annual event.

Visiting for the weekend with, Ila Turner and family and assisting in the tournament were Mike Turner, of West Jefferson, Eric Turner and Devery Scott, of Columbus. Others attending were Ila Turner, Julia Turner, Annie Turner and Gene and Penny Turner.

Debbie Lehman spent the day in Sugarcreek with her mother, Elsie Baker, sisters, Sue Carpenter and Pat Forshey, and granddaughter Elizabeth Alleman on Friday, July 29.
