Mary Lou Mikesell Schar, age 98, of Sardis, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Lodi, a daughter of the late Charles Wade and Mary Belle Kemery Mikesell.
She graduated in 1942, from Westfield High School in LeRoy. She went to Berea to work and attend Baldwin Wallace College. During World War II, she married Forrest Homer Schar. When he was overseas she went to Westerville to work in a war plant and attended Otterbein College from which she graduated in 1947. She taught high school in Bloom Township and Tiffin Public Schools before moving to Monroe County, where she administrated and taught in the MACO program. She was a member of the Sardis United Methodist Church, Ohio PERS, United Methodist Women and DAV Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest H. Schar in 2013; sister, Roberta Byrsacz; and a grandson, Kevin Schar.
Survivors include three sons, Danford Schar, of Newbury Park, California, John Forrest Schar, of Sardis, and James Schar of Frankfurt, Germany; a daughter, Evelyn Marker, of Tiffin; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound St., Sardis, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2023, with Jim Miller officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery, Sardis.
