Monroe Theatre receives 600 seats from Palace Theatre
The above pictured theatre seats were recently acquired at no cost to the Monroe Theatre Committee from The Palace Theatre, a 2,827 seat restored movie palace, located in Columbus. The Palace Theatre is in the process of a complete renovation so approximately 1500 seats have to be removed. The seats are in excellent condition and of the same period design as the Monroe Theatre. Plans are for Committee members to shrink wrap seats individually and hire a moving company, if possible, to transport them to Woodsfield for storage.
Joyce Barrett of Heritage Ohio contacted the Monroe Theatre Committee about the opportunity. Because the Committee was the first to inquire about the seats, it received first choice concerning the number of seats it wanted. This acquisition is valued at approximately $60,000, at least.
The Palace Theatre was built in 1926 and is located at 34 West Broad Street in Columbus.
