Standoff in Calais ends with two in custody

Two Monroe County residents were taken into custody following a lengthy standoff Tuesday, June 5 in Calais.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Charles Black, John Currier and Dorothy Currier were arrested after allegedly making threats of violence toward Monroe County deputies.

The incident started between 11 a.m. and noon when two Monroe County deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on John Currier, who was squatting inside an abandoned Amish home in Calais.
