Storied veteran Herman Zerger recognized by Woodsfield Council

Council proclaims Jan. 5 ‘Herman Zerger Day’

In June of 1942, at only 18 years of age, Woodsfield’s American patriot Herman Zerger enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Zerger did this to serve his country and he did so bravely and with honor.

He bravely fought in 31 battles in Italy and France. He spent more than 300 days on the front line.

As a sergeant, Zerger led his companies in battles that saw tremendous losses.
