42nd annual Charlie’s Run set for Oct. 5

The 42nd annual Children’s Hospital Charity Run will take place Saturday, Oct. 5 in Woodsfield.

Charlie Kozlesky and Mitch Toto started the Children’s Hospital Charity Runs back in the 1970s with two runs from Woodsfield to Pittsburgh.

The two followed those runs by connecting the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital with the Columbus Children’s Hospital for a 180-mile three-day run over a Thanksgiving weekend.

The next 25 years included 24-hour runs at the Monroe County Airport and on the streets of Woodsfield.

After the 30th annual 24-hour run the race became a 12-hour run. Charlie Kozlesky along with race director Pandora Neuhart decided that this year’s race will be an 8-hour run.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has informed Charlie Kozlesky that over the past year about 20 families from the Monroe County area have benefited from the free and reduced care provided through this race. Over the duration of this event, almost $900,000 has been raised to support our children. Charlie hopes that he can continue this run until the event raises his goal of more than $1 million.

Charlie Kozlesky has been informed that local runners Lori Michener, Chris Benedict and Sherry Wilson will be running the 8-hour event. Mitch Toto, of Adena, will be joining Charlie along with long-time participants Ruta Mazelis, Ruth Brewer, Bill Potts, Dick Sanders and Mark Pack.

Charlie is extremely grateful that Pandora Neuhart has once again offered to coordinate the volunteers, timers and meals for this event. Please contact Pandora if you are willing to assist this year.

Charlie will be contacting potential donors beginning the first part of September. Please help Charlie make the difference in the lives of our Monroe County children by making your check payable to Children’s Hospital and send it to Charlie Kozlesky, 254 Brownstone Court, Westerville, OH 43081.
