Bernard C. Hill Sr., 88, of Summerfield, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at his home.

He was born near Carlisle, on July 14, 1931, a son of the late Louis and Dena Coleman Hill.

Bernard was a retired employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation in Noble County, and was a former mechanic at the former Ziler’s Garage in Caldwell.

He was a Catholic by faith; an honorary member of the Summerfield Fire Department, Summerfield, and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Caldwell.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping, sporting events and spending time with family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Burkhart and Freda Ritterbeck; a brother, Raphael Hill; a sister-in-law, Ethel Weisend; and a step-granddaughter, Deanna Smithberger.

Surviving are his wife, Lela Kirkbride Hill, whom he married on Dec. 12, 1953; four daughters, Diane (Dan) Gray, of Senecaville, Debbie (Robert) Forshey, of Caldwell, Lynne (Jim) Smithberger, of Lower Salem, and Jodi (Dave) Schott, of Caldwell; three sons, Bernard (Kerry) Hill Jr., of Summerfield, David (Katrina) Hill, of Mt. Blanchard, and Jamie (Tess) Hill, of Woods-field; sister-in-law, Donna (Larry) Mallett, of Summerfield; brother-in-law, Donald (Linda) Kirkbride, of Summer-field; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Friends were received Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, where funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, with Jimmie Moore officiating. Burial followed in the Eastern Cemetery, Summerfield.
