Charles Alvin Powell, 83, of Woodsfield, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at the Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia.

He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on March 11, 1936, a son of the late Harold Lester Powell and Mary Catherine Marie Ryan Powell.

He was a retired truck driver and coal miner. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Woodsfield. He enjoyed carpentry work, deer hunting and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Edward Powell and John Samuel Powell; and one sister, Clara Jean Sherrin.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Kay Talbot Powell, whom he married on June 8, 1980; four daughters, Julie (Tom) Thames, of Mounds-ville, West Virginia, Cindy (Steve) Williams, of Shadyside, Bobbi Dawn (Buddy) Panyko of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Char (Tim) Campbell, of Shadyside; one son, Chad (Megan) Powell, of Woodsfield, Ohio; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at the First Baptist Church, 114 N. Paul St., Woodsfield, with Pastor T.J. Milam officiating. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family.
