George F. Black, 79, of Woodsfield, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at the Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia.

He was born at Attica, Indiana on Jan. 9, 1942, a son of the late Dorothy Black.

He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He was also a member of V.F.W. Post 5303, Woodsfield.

He enjoyed fishing with his son, hunting, bowling, playing cards / poker with his friends, enjoyed wood crafting and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy Black; a brother, William Lowe.

Surviving are his wife, Cathy Deslaurier Black whom he married Oct. 5, 1963; a daughter, Dawn Gaddis, of Canton; one son, Troy Black and fiancé, Virginia Wellman, of Duffy; three sisters, Pat Oteham, of Indiana, Sue Lowe, of Texas, Judy Whitington, of Indiana, Ohio; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation or service. Following cremation, inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family.
