Marion C. Poppy Gates, 89, of Woodsfield, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, at his home.

He was born in Monroe County, Oct. 11, 1932, a son of the late Chattum Douglas and Ora Miller Gates.

He was a member of Local 18 Operating Engineers as a Heavy Equipment Operator, and a pipe liner. He was a very proud U.S. Army Veteran, and enjoyed talking politics.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Gates.

He is survived by his wife, Martha L. Davis Gates, of Woodsfield; sons, John (Janet) Davis, of Woodsfield, and David (Laurie - Laura) Conner, of Lewisville; daughters, Debbie (Chris) Gates-Plotner and Michele (Andy) Gates-Storts, both of Woodfield; bonus daughter, Sammie (Greg) Yamagata, of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, Dolly Groves, of Lewisville, and Carolyn Kenney, of Massillon; grandchildren, Joshua Labuda, Raven (Drew) Green, Madison (Kory) Hill, Leanna Davis, Aubrey Davis, Kylie-Callie Davis, Mike Conner, Hunter (Paige) Conner, Elizabeth Stanley, and Tyler Storts; three great-grandchildren, Isabella, Mason, and Kaynon; one great-granddaughter due in October Mackinley Hill, several nieces and nephews, and many special neighbors and friends.

Friends were received Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, where funeral services were held Sunday, June 19, 2022, with Rev. David Cottrell officiating. Military services were also held Sunday. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield.
