Raymond E. Petty, 79, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019, at the Arbors of Woods-field.

He was born near Antioch June 27, 1939, a son of the late Ralph Petty and Mildred Brown.

He was a retired fuel distributor and former owner of the Woodsfield Bottled Gas Company in Woodsfield. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Woodsfield; a U.S. Army veteran; a member of Monroe Lodge #189, F. & A.M., Woodsfield; a member of Order of Eastern Star #268, Woodsfield; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Cambridge, and served on the boards of the Monroe County Airport Authority and the Woodsfield Savings Bank.

Raymond had his own airplane and enjoyed flying in his spare time, was an avid reader, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. He also took joy in spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Christman Petty on October 2, 2009; one brother, Charles “Fred” Petty; two sisters, Glenda Lohri and Sara Weddle Cleveland.

Surviving are two daughters, Kim (Carl) Whitacre of Graysville, Krista Mann of Springfield, Virginia; three grandchildren, Carl Edward Whitacre, Caleb Mann, Addison Mann; and one great-grandson, Tyler Whitacre.

Friends were received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, from 5 – 8 p.m. Saturday, March 2, where funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, with Chaplin Herb Alexander of Stonerise Home Hospice.

Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.

Masonic services were held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
