One of the biggest challenges for family researchers is identifying female ancestors. First names are easier to come by than maiden names, most notably in the years when public records were scant. A marriage record is the obvious first choice for finding your ancestor’s maiden name, but sometimes those cannot be found. Don’t give up though.
