Paula VanCamp Figel, age 76, of Sardis, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at WVU-Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia.
She was born Oct. 29, 1946, in New Martinsville West Virginia, the daughter of the late Paul and Waynda Gaynelle VanCamp.
She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church, Sardis. She was a devoted Christian and loved her God, her church and her church family.
She was a devoted wife to her late husband, John, mother, and grandmother to her family.
Paula was well known for her exceptional baking skills. While a number cannot be established, she baked tens of thousands of delicious cookies, pastries and pies to the delight of anyone that tried them.
Until her late husband John’s passing, Paula and John cleaned the offices where their son David was employed. Paula became an icon there as she frequently left treats on office desks with kind personal notes attached. She also made pies for nearly every company event. The employees looked forward to company events and fondly requested the delicious “Mama Figel” pies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Figel, and a son, Robert Figel.
Surviving are two sons, Andrew (Cyndi) Figel, of Sardis, and David (Christy) Figel, of Caldwell; nine grandchildren, Alysha, Justin, Baylee, Laken, Caydi, Luke, Grady, Sydney and Casey; a great-grandson, Grayson; a great-granddaughter, Myla; a daughter- in-law, Angie Figel; three brothers, Dave, Hayden and Danny; three sisters, Linda, Nannette and Samantha; a brother-in-law, Delmos; a sister-in-law, Diane; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Apostolic Christian Church, 49076 State Route 255, Sardis.
Interment will follow in the Apostolic Church Cemetery, Sardis.
