Ray Williamson, 89, passed away peacefully in the home that he loved on Wilson Lake near Beallsville, on Friday, July 14, 2023.
He was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Lorain, a son of the late Robert and Florence Septarie Williamson.
Ray was a proud U.S. Army veteran having served his country during the Korean War era. He was a retired employee of the former Ohio Ferro-Alloys Plant near Clarington. After his retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper/maintenance worker, “jack-of-all-trades,” at Shadow Lake Campground near Miltonsburg where he became known as, “Ranger Ray.” He was a Charter member of American Legion Post 768 having served as both commander and chaplain along with performing many other services within and around the Legion over the years. He was also a member of Woodsfield VFW Post #5303, and a member of Sunsbury Lodge #362, F&AM. Ray enjoyed the years he spent playing in several different country music bands; bluegrass music was his favorite. A man of many talents and diverse interests, Ray loved watching wrestling and he enthusiastically studied everything from trains to UFOs. He will forever be remembered for his engineering mind, his attention to detail, and his devotion to his family, his country and his friends.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by daughters, Kathy Williamson and Nanette Bolin; also by brothers, Bob and Mac Williamson.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 72 years, Eleanor Lucas Williamson; his children, Roger Williamson, of Beallsville, Mac Williamson, of Morristown, Kerry (Junior) Hill, of Summerfield, and Sally Ann Sipperley, of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Roger (Drew), Chris, Dustin (Melissa), Douglas, David, Erica (James), Andrew (Audrey), Toni, Zachery, Brad, and Genna (Candice); nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Delmer (Dawn) Williamson, of Florida; also many friends.
In keeping with Ray’s wishes, there will be no visitation, however family and friends are invited to a memorial service followed by full military honors to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at American Legion Post 768, 52651 Broad St., Beallsville, OH 43716. Inurnment will take place in Beallsville Cemetery at a date and time of the family’s choosing.
