RICHARD L. SCOTT

 Richard L. Scott, 87, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023, at his home.
 He was the third of 12 children born December 10, 1936, near Lewisville, Ohio, a son of the late Harmon and Thelma L. Kuhn Scott.
 Richard was a coach, counselor, educator and author. He graduated from Lewisville High School, Lewisville, Ohio, and was an alumnus of Ohio State University where he earned a B.S. degree in education and an M.A. in school guidance. He served as student services supervisor in Project Ohio Newgate, a program in higher education for the Ohio adult penal system administered by Ohio Board of Regents. He especially enjoyed his time at Berkley, Michigan High School teaching a high school senior psychology class. After graduation in 1958, he coached high school sports then was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Germany in 1960 – 1961. He ultimately became employed by Columbus Public Schools in various teaching, counseling and administrative roles until retirement.
 In retirement, Richard became the author of a book titled, “An Examination of Conscience of the Understanding: Empirical Proof of the Existence of God”. He was very proud of this accomplishment and began awarding a $5,000.00 scholarship through The Columbus Foundation to those who read the book and submitted an essay.
 Richard was also an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan.
 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Charlene Scott Lenser, Debbie Scott and Bonnie Scott; four brothers, Franklin Scott, Jimmy Scott, Jerry Scott and Mike Scott; a nephew, Tommy Lambert and a niece, Mary Rose Johnson.
 Surviving are his brothers, Eugene Scott and Phillip Scott of Lewisville; two sisters, Janet Johnson of Croton, Ohio, and Nancy (Bob) Williams of Ostrander, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.
 Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024, St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 330 S. Main Street, Woodsfield, Ohio, with Fr. Timothy Davison as the celebrant.
 Graveside and military services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Chapel Hill Cemetery near Lewisville.
