SILAS HARTWELL JR.

Silas (Hardy) Kenton Hartwell Jr., 89, of Killeen, Texas, formerly of Akron and Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at his home. He was born in Hinton, W.V., July 13, 1935, a son of the late Silas Kenton Hartwell Sr. and Dora Irene Hodge Hartwell.
Our dad lived a full life. After retiring from Ford, Dad and Mom settled in Woodsfield where he became a great caretaker making it their heaven on earth. Dad loved mowing and raking all those leaves, even though he complained. Dad also enjoyed tinkering in his garage while listening to Blue Grass music. If there was a festival, or his favorite band, Coney Carver and the Rainbow Valley Boys was playing he was there, not just dad, we all went with him. Dad always took time to visit his family, enjoying the visits as well. We all took our friends there from time to time, the welcome mat was always ready to receive. The grill would be smoking with steaks, his famous baked potatoes, and he always made some mighty fine wine.
Now he can rest with mom by his side.
He retired from Ford Motor Company as a material handler and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Hartwell, son Randy Hartwell Sr., brothers Jim, David, Bill, Roger, Dan and Tom, and sisters Hilda, Lois and Ruth, and son-in-law Charlie (Tuna) Huffman.
He is survived by his son Rodney (Mona) Hartwell of Akron, daughters, Terry (Greg) Wilmes of Killeen, and Tammy Huffman (Jim Corl) of Akron, daughter-in-law Joanne Hartwell of Louisiana, brothers Ralph Hartwell of Hinton, Gary Hartwell of West Virginia, and Ronnie Hartwell of Hinton, sister Betty Lamb of Princeton, W.V., grandchildren, Charity, Jason, Randy Jr., Nicole, Christopher, Zachary, Nathaniel, Coty, Barb, Benjamin, Robert, David, Chris, Erik, and Jeremy, great-grandchildren, Courtney, Jessica, Damian, Lacey, Emma, Daniel, David, Abigail, Caleb, Thomas, Bianca, Magnolia, Janelle and Wesley, great-great-grandchildren, Hailey, and Camila, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends received from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, with Rev. David Cottrell officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.
