River falls 29-28 after last-minute Danville score

Seeing the tear-soaked faces of his players, River Coach Mike Flannery was at a loss for words.
“What can you say to them?” Flannery said.

The Pilots had just watched Danville snatch away their berth in the Division VII state semifinal, as Danville quarterback Skyler Durbin scored on 12-yard run with 1:02 remaining in the game, and added the two-point conversion to give the Blue Devils the 29-28 victory in the Division VII regional final Friday, Nov. 17 at Maysville High School.

Prior to Durbin’s score, River had not trailed in the game’s previous 47 minutes.
