Vera L. Smith, age 93, of Sardis, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at WVU Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville, West Virginia.

She was born Jan. 15, 1929, in New Dale, West Virginia, daughter of the late Henry and Erma Levina (Cecil) Richmond.

Vera was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, in Sardis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Homer J. Smith; great-grandson, Matthew Smith; brother, Friend Thomas Richmond.

Survivors include eight children; Bernard (Sharon) Smith, of Sardis, Charles Daniel (Deborah) Smith, of Northport, Washington, Samuel (Janelle) Smith, of Beallsville, Ronald (Delores) Smith, of Sardis, Jerry (Sherri) Smith, of New Matamoras, Vicki (Kevin) Haught, of Sardis, Kirby (Jody) Smith, of Sardis, and Faye (Bob) Smith, of Sardis; brother, William (Destee) Richmond, of Cibalo, Texas; sister, Flossie Bland, of Chester, West Virginia; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She also leaves behind special friend and caretaker Wanda Weiss.

Family received friends on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, West Virginia, where services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022, with Jim Miller officiating.

Interment followed in Zion Memorial Garden, Sardis.
