Virginia May Cook, 91, of Woodsfield, (formerly of Hackney) passed away Friday, May 22, 2020, at the Stellar Care Center, Woodsfield.
She was born in Hamtramck, Michigan, on Feb. 15, 1929, a daughter of the late Ralph and Verla Viola Wineberger Moretz.
She was a homemaker and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star, Reinersville.
Virginia enjoyed quilting, handwork, gardening and flowers. Her main love was her family and other children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister at birth, Velma Lee Moretz, and five brothers, Ralph, Roy, Charles, John and Paul Moretz.
Surviving are her husband, George Cook, whom she married on Feb. 2, 1947; one daughter, Janice (William) Massey, of Malta; two sons, Gary (Judy) Cook, of Woodsfield, Mike (Gail) Cook, of Daniels, West Virginia; three sisters, Jane Grubb, of Clinton, Tennessee, Estelle Dinan, of Zanesville, and Kay Moretz, of Mt. Holly, North Carolina; five brothers, Glenn Moretz, of Arlington, Texas, Ray Moretz, of Boone, North Carolina, Jerry Moretz, of Clinton, Tennessee, Jimmy Moretz, of Boone, North Carolina, Edwin Moretz, of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. Family and friends are welcome to attend graveside services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at the Malta Cemetery, Malta, with Rev. David Cottrill officiating. Please keep in mind that social distancing will be observed and facemasks are encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Janice Massey, 5400 West Poplar Ridge Rd., Malta, OH 43758 to be used toward the purchase of a monument for George and Virginia.
